The Issues

Public Safety

I will make public safety my top priority as a Council member. Our community continues to grow and we need to ensure that we have sufficient police officers and fire fighters on the streets to keep our communities safe. In addition, I will seek funding opportunities to support the cities YGRIP (Youth Gang Reduction Intervention and Prevention) Initiative to assist in reducing youth gang activity through prevention, intervention, and suppression methods.

Downtown Woodland

I will continue to support our Downtown and focus on different strategies to revitalize and support our local businesses. I believe a city’s downtown reflects its strong heriitage and culture. The preservation & revitalization of Woodland’s Downtown is critical and I will make every effort to attract more business to downtown. As a Councilmember, I will ensure that small business owners have a voice and access to city hall.

Balanced Growth

Every city can grow, but a thriving city grows in a balanced manner. Prioritizing the needs of current Woodland residents will always be my priority when it comes to development. The City of Woodland has current obligations that must be met. As a Councilmember, I will ensure the completion of the Spring Lake Specific Plan (south east area of Woodland) and other infill opportunities are considered. As Woodland updates its General Plan, I will emphasize that we grow in a balanced approach. Growth in terms of residential housing will need to be determined by the city’s ability to provide water and sewer capabilities, city services, and a steady growth in retail and commercial development.

Protecting Prime Agriculture Land

It is imperative that city policy makers protect the prime Agricultural land that surrounds Woodland and the region. I have a great appreciation for the hands who harvest the fields and the farmers who grow our food. Agriculture is a part of Woodland’s identity and it is the largest industry in our County. We must do everything possible to protect it.

Fiscal Responsibility

I wiill support an annual budget that is balanced. It is imperative that every Councilmember becomes an expert in budgeting, accounting, and auditing process to ensure every tax dollar is spend efficiently and effectively. Training is essential so Council member’s can adopt budgets that allow city services to continue to serve Woodland residents while still being fiscally responsible. As a Councilmember, I will adopt policies that are fiscally sound and make sense for our community.

City Youth Council & City Services

Our youth is Woodland’s future. As a councilmember, I will work with my colleagues to promote a resolution that will establish a City Youth Commission. The commission will be charged with providing input to the City Council on issues of planning, recreation activities, city services, and help strengthen the partnership between the City and the School District.
